Summary

High-performance Backend Engineer with 6+ years of experience engineering resilient distributed microservices, event-driven pipelines, and relational/NoSQL data layers. Specialized in Go, Python, and Node.js with a proven track record of slashing API latencies by 55%, reducing monthly cloud compute overhead by $24,000, and scaling backend architectures for high-throughput platforms supporting 5M+ daily requests with 99.99% availability.

Work experience

Senior Backend Engineer

Aug 2022 - Present

DataStream Systems

Location: Austin, TX

- Architected and scaled a distributed telemetry ingestion service in Go and Kafka processing 200M+ daily events with sub-50ms p99 latency. - Redesigned complex PostgreSQL transactional schemas and introduced Redis caching layers, cutting database CPU utilization by 42%. - Migrated internal synchronous REST endpoints to gRPC over HTTP/2, saving 35% serialized payload bandwidth and accelerating inter-service calls. - Implemented infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and orchestrated containerized deployments on AWS EKS, achieving 99.99% system uptime SLA. - Mentored 5 junior/mid-level engineers through regular code reviews, system design sessions, and test-driven development (TDD) best practices.

Backend Software Developer

Jan 2020 - Jul 2022

OmniCloud Technologies

Location: San Francisco, CA (Remote)

- Developed core microservices using Python (FastAPI) and Node.js for an enterprise SaaS multi-tenant subscription platform. - Engineered idempotent payment processing pipelines with Stripe API webhooks, eliminating duplicate transaction risks across $15M+ annual volume. - Built an asynchronous background task worker fleet with Celery and Redis to handle image optimization, report generation, and automated emails. - Constructed unit and integration testing pipelines with PyTest and Jest within GitHub Actions, boosting test coverage from 48% to 91%.

Junior Software Engineer

Jun 2018 - Dec 2019

CoreLogic Labs

Location: Dallas, TX

- Maintained legacy Node.js/Express backend APIs and refactored authentication module to JWT and OAuth 2.0 specifications. - Wrote automated SQL migration scripts and managed index optimizations for MySQL databases supporting over 500K active accounts.

Projects

Distributed Task Queue Engine (Go, Redis, Docker)

Jan 2018 - Dec 2018

Engineered an open-source lightweight task queue in Go implementing at-least-once delivery, exponential backoff retries, and high-concurrency worker pools capable of scheduling 10,000 tasks/sec.

Scalable Log Aggregator & Search API (Python, Elasticsearch, Kafka)

Jan 2018 - Dec 2018

Constructed a log indexing pipeline streaming application logs into Elasticsearch clusters through Kafka message brokers, delivering full-text sub-second search capabilities across 50GB daily log volume.
